Third of Mums Feel Jealous of Other Mums

More than a third of British mums admitted feeling jealous of other mums, with ‘well-behaved kids’ topping the poll for what British mums are the most jealous about, closely followed by ‘figure’ and ‘family life’ in second and third place respectively.

www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk polled 1,428 mums with at least one child aged three or over and asked them ‘Have you felt jealous about other mums?’, to which 36 per cent said yes.

The respondents who admitted feeling jealous about other mothers said they were most jealous of mums with well-behaved kids, great figures, intelligent kids and those in a good financial situation.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk,said: “We might not talk about it openly but there is always kind of a competition between parents who will, intentionally or not, compare their social, family or personal life to each other.

“But I think this is generally something we all do, parent or not.  On the other side, parents are always keen to brag about their children’s skills and achievements, which is great. They should be proud. But remember, the grass is always greener on the other side.”

Respondents that admitted feeling jealous about other mums were then asked if they were friends with some of their children’s friends’ mums, to which a third answered no.

When they were asked to explain the reason why, a quarter admitted not being friends with other mums because they ‘didn’t like’ their children whilst 29 per cent stated they didn’t like the parents.

A further 23 per cent explained not being friends with other mums due to difference of opinion regards to their children’s manners  whilst 16 per cent explained not being friends with other mums for no particular reason.

According to the results, the top ten things British mums feel the most jealous of were:

1. Well-behaved kids – 71%

2. Better figure – 64%

3. Family life – 58%

4. Financial situation – 50%

5. Kids’ intelligence – 43%

6. Time-keeping – 37%

7. Social life – 28%

8. Job – 21%

9. Husband – 17%

10. Role within the school – 14%
