The nationwide study of 1,000 parents of primary school children, found that one in four parents (21%) said their own lack of knowledge about the natural world means they are often at a total loss when their kids ask about it.

Seventeen percent of parents admitted they didn't know how many continents there are, thirteen percent mistakenly believe the African elephant is extinct, and one in five didn’t didn’t know an Orca was a killer whale.

Even when it comes to everyday topics twenty-one percent of Mums and Dads can’t answer their kids when they ask how plastic is made and forty-six per cent get confused over what can and can’t be recycled.

The research also revealed that thirty one percent of parents say their children have influenced the way they think about environmental issues, with forty three percent say that since having children they are now more concerned about the environmental legacy they leave behind.

One in four (40 percent) British parents said they were striving to teach their family to be sustainable in their everyday lives.1 When asked which little things, they do to teach their children to look after the environment, 72 percent teach their little ones to turn off lights when they aren’t being used, sixty five percent focus on recycling and sixty percent are teaching their children to reduce their energy and water usage.

Matthew Toulson, EMEA General Manager of Munchkin said: "This research shows how naturally curious kids are about the world and how parents are often floored by the range of questions from their children that they face every day. To help raise awareness of endangered and at-risk animals Munchkin have partnered with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and The Whale Sanctuary Project with the WildLove Miracle® Cup range, which features animals currently under threat such as the polar bear and orca.

“Each cup comes with key facts about the species featured on the design and their habitats, so parents can help educate their kids’ about the natural world and open a dialogue about what we can all do to help.”

Munchkin believe that animals and their habitats are vital to our world and are committed to creating a more sustainable future. By purchasing a WildLove Miracle Cup, you are supporting Munchkin’s donation to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and The Whale Sanctuary Project to help their critical efforts saving animal families from harm and extinction.
