Keep your kids happy in the car

With Easter only a few weeks away, no doubt you'll be packing up for a day out with your family, but how can you keep your kids distracted with the long journey?

Well, Mother Debbie Rose and owner of Lottie & Thomas gives us her practical tips, for a stress free drive and great start to your holiday.

Preparation is the key to long journeys when travelling with little ones. Write yourself a check list to ensure nothing is left behind.

Consider driving at night to ensure young children’s sleep routine is not broken.

Pack the car the night before to avoid morning rush and stress, nothing kills the moment more to the start of a trip than getting started on a bad note.

Always check oil, water, petrol and AA cover before you pull off the drive

Dress children in comfortable clothes such as soft cottons for the journey, you can always take a change of clothes for them to look their best on arrival of location.

Children want to be entertained not listen to the news on the radio, sing along tapes are great for the whole family and keeps spirits high.

Zoobie pets are great when travelling with children. A soft toy, pillow and blanket all in one – ideal!

Car sun shades and child view mirrors are car accessories you wouldn’t want to be without. Very handy for protecting children from UV rays and checking what is going on in the back seats.

Pre pack drinks, snacks and finger food for long journeys.

Don’t forget wet wipes for sticky fingers and spillages.

Entertainment doesn’t have to take over the whole car. Memory games such as ‘My grandma went to the market’ is great entertainment as well as eye spy!

For young children always make sure a potty and sick bags are kept handy. By avoiding toilet stops as often as possible, will cut expenses at service stations.
