This week, Jenny Sawings, 10, from Essex was named as the grand prize winner of the Triple Velvet Young Nature Photographer of the Year Competition. Based around the theme ‘Nature in Summer’, Jenny’s stunning close up of colourful flowers was chosen by a panel of judges including celebrity judge Nell McAndrew.

Nell said of the photograph: “This picture summed up the theme ‘Nature in Summer’ more than any of the other shots. It is a well composed and colourful shot that brings a smile to my face”.

Nell loves getting outdoors with her family and doing her bit for the environment: “Triple Velvet’s photography competition has been a fantastic way of encouraging children to get closer to nature. The competition not only encourages them to develop their photography skills, but also to learn more about animals, habitats and conservation at the same time!”

Jenny is the grand prize winner out of three finalists in three age categories. She has won the great family experience of a weekend away to a UK Center Parcs village; as well as a fantastic digital camera and photo printer.

Now in its second year, the Triple Velvet Young Nature Photographer of the Year competition was launched to get children excited about nature and conservation and for every entry received, Triple Velvet will be planting a sapling in partnership with Trees For Cities.
