Sitting in a particular spot on an aeroplane could save your life should disaster strike.
Flying is still one of the safest forms of transport, but if things do go wrong, it is usually in a big way. Research has shown that sitting in particular places on an aeroplane can actually improve your survival chance in the event of a major malfunction.
In order to support the theory, a plane was purposely crashed to test the safety of airline seats. It was recorded in a documentary for Channel 4 called The Crash, and for the test they smashed a Boeing 727 into the Sonoran Desert in Mexico.
This revealed that the rear section of the plane provided the greatest chance of survival, while the front of the plane where the first class passengers would reside was the opposite. When it comes to a window seat or aisle seat, the difference in survival chance is marginal.
If you're one of those people who have a fear of flying, perhaps the following statistics will give you some peace of mind. According to Oxford University, a Briton's odds of dying in a plane crash are one in 3.5million, while the odds of dying in a motor accident are far more grim at one in 36,512.
