This follows other similar incidents in France, after a 40 year old father found a new born baby in the bedroom of his family home on Thursday.

When Gendarmes went to the house they found four other new born babies in the freezer. The man's wife has been taken into hospital for psychiatric testing.

The man is reportedly in a state of shock after his discovery and he told the investigators that neither him or his two daughters had any knowledge of the pregnancies.

Autopsies are being undertaken today to establish if the babies died at birth or were murdered. A police spokeswoman said that the woman "does not appear to have a history of mental illness".

In 2012, eight new born babies were discovered in a garden in Viller-au-Tertre, close to Lille in France. The mother, Dominique Cottrez admitted at she had murdered them and revealed that she herself has suffered from many incestuous attacks in her past.

Véronique Courjault was imprisoned in 2009 following two babies that were found in her freezer at home in 2006 in South Korea. In both cases, the husbands were not aware that their wives had been pregnant or that they had stored the bodies in their home.

The investigators believe that the woman from Thursday's incident had hidden her pregnancy from her family and friends. They suspect it was born on Tuesday, just two days before her husband found the bodies.

In a statement to the French news agency, AFP, the gendarmerie said they had "discovered four further bodies of babies as well as the new-born found earlier". It appears that "the mother gave birth at home alone," the statement said. "She appears at this stage not to have a history of mental illness."
