Charlie Simpson has loved Bell X1 since their first album, and was one of his favourite albums for a long time, so when he stumbled upon this little barrel of joy during his foray into my CD drawer, he was keen to see if their latest song lived up to In Every Sunflower.
From the outset, Omar isn’t overly convinced as he thinks it sound’s way too much like The Killers, but regardless, he’s keen not to let his personal taste get in the way of the band’s review of the single, which is quite obviously a lot more indie than their previous offerings.
Charlie does point out though, that “the voice and tone of this song sounds a lot happier these days, and they have used keyboards nicely.
Part way through the song, some great backing vocals come out and throughout the melodies are good. I would say it's a lighter side to what I heard from previous albums but by all accounts, a fair attempt at something good.”
Although, quick to point out his confusion to this single, Omar questions where the chorus is, and states “I’m not feeling it unfortunately, it has potential but it's not my thing, it’s like what you’d get if The Cure couldn't write music.”
Not put off by Omar’s distaste though, Charlie and Dan admit that they’re fans of what they’re trying to do here, and are eager to defend it to the bitter end; “It grows on you as the song goes on and is good for driving down the freeway.”
