The multi-talented Sam Gray returns to the fore this summer with a bold new sound and a striking new look all wrapped up in a three-and-a-half minute soul pop stunner.
‘This Girl’ released through Transmission Recordings on 5 August has the musical overtones of a Style Council in their prime and a vocal straight out of the Otis Redding closet. Upbeat, soulful, sunny music at its best. And it’s cool too.
Known up until now as the classic singer-songwriter-have-guitar-will-travel- troubadour, Sam has effortlessly morphed into the cutting edge soul boy with a modern twist. "I liked being the man bashing out the tunes on the acoustic guitar, and am extremely proud of my body of work,"he says.
"But at my core, this is what I am." Make of it what you will, all we know, ‘This Girl’ has more cheer, more energy than anything else currently doing the rounds.
Sam enjoyed a bumper 2011 with a string of high profile shows supporting the likes of The Overtones and Charlie Simpson and will be doing the festival rounds this summer with slots at Cornbury and Secret Garden Party with more to be announced.
He will also played this year’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone and supported the legendary Bob Geldof at Islington Assembly Halls.
‘This Girl’ takes Sam to the next phase in his career and an exciting one it promises to be. Just make sure you’re there to make the journey with him.
