On March 12th 2012, award-winning singer-songwriter Jamie Hartman follows the success of the Top 20 Airplay hit ‘Happy New Year’ with the release of his new single, ‘Girlwise’ - a current ‘Record The Week’ on Radio 2 and, from Saturday 18th February, on the B-list of the station’s playlist.
Having made his name as the frontman of Ben’s Brother, ‘Happy New Year’ was the first single to be released under Hartman’s own name, and immediately became a Radio 2 ‘Record of The Week’ and spent seven weeks on the station’s prestigious playlist - three of which were on the coveted A-list. During the first week of 2012 ‘Happy New Year’ received more airplay than any other song on Radio 2.
When it came to choosing the next single to release from Hartman’s forthcoming new album ‘III’ (out March 19th 2012, Flat Cap Records), the decision to release ‘Girlwise’ was an obvious one, as the BMI Award winner and Ivor Novello Award Nominee explains, "Some songs people just seem to react to, and love. That's what's happening with ‘Girlwise.’ Every time I play it, people love it. So it just had to be the next single."
Having parted company with EMI to set-up his own independent record label (Flat Cap Records), the success of ‘Happy New Year’ was a dream-come-true for Hartman, 'I am very grateful to EMI for what they did - they picked up my first record and took a punt on me, as I wasn’t the youngest first album artist.
'But this was just the right step for me. This time it is totally independent. It has nothing to do with a major record label. You just think 'Well, sod it. I may as well do it the way that I hear it', and it has paid off.'
Moving to the U.S. in 2010 to build on his success as one of the UK’s top songwriters (where Jamie has since collaborated with many of today’s top acts, including The Goo Goo Dolls, various American Idols and chart-topping Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls), Jamie shrugged off his moniker for previous albums ‘Beta-Male Fairytales’ and ‘Battling Giants’ as he wrote the tracks for ‘III’ at his new home in the national park of Topanga Canyon.
The album’s title not only represents the third studio album of Jamie Hartman’s career, but also symbolizes life as a family since the birth of his daughter in March 2011.
Speaking of his new album’s writing process, Jamie said, 'I moved out to this remote place, and just waited and waited until the inspiration came.
'This is the album I’ve always wanted to make. Totally honest and unafraid of what people might think. Being cut off from everything you know forces you to question everything. I had my 40 days and nights in the wilderness. ‘III’ is the result of that.'
Jamie Hartman’s new single ‘Girlwise’ is released on March 12th 2012 on Flat Cap Records.
