Kris Allen

Last night oodles of Americans tuned in to watch Kris Allen and Adam Lambert battle it out to be crowned winner of American Idol 2009.

Although it’s not shown in the UK until Friday at 9pm on ITV2, I think that my headline pretty much gives it away that the underdog of the final three, even the final two, was eventually the one to be crowned the winner.

Ever since that first audition in Louisville, where he first performed for Simon Cowell and friends, it was obviously that Kris had something special about him, although he was the first to admit there were probably; “better singers out there than me” which became apparent in his semi-final heat, when both Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta earned more praise and he tagged along as the third singer to earn the assigned spot among the 13 finalists.

However, as the series dragged on, Kris seemed to find his niche, and began performing hit after hit, whilst the people around him in the competition grew smaller and smaller, clearly he was oblivious to just how well he’d done, for when Kris heard his name announced as the Season 8 winner, he bellowed, “Are you serious? I’m sorry, I don’t even know what to feel right now. This is crazy!”

Aww, Kris, we love your modesty, even when you are presented with the title of ‘American Idol’ and a million-dollar record contract, a trophy shaped like a microphone, and the obligation to work with songwriter Kara DioGuardi to try and turn “No Boundaries” into something that doesn’t cause listeners to frantically change the station when it comes on the radio.

Kris, we wish you all the luck in the world.
