MTV has announced that the first four nominees in the Best UK & Ireland Act category at this year's MTV EMA's are Sam Smith, Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran and One Direction.

They're now giving the fans the power to decide who should be granted the fifth nominee slot in a Twitter vote.

Sam Smith is already nominated

Arctic Monkeys, The Vamps, Coldplay, Rita Ora, Cheryl and Clean Bandit are all up for the position, with Twitter uses being encouraged to tweet #MTVEMA and one of the following hashtags:

#NominateArcticMonkeys
#NominateTheVamps
#NominateColdplay
#NominateRitaOra
#NominateCheryl
#NominateCleanBandit

The wild card vote is open until 10.59 BST on September 14, with all final nominees for the 2014 MTV European Music Awards being announced on September 16 at 11.00 BST.

The 2014 MTV EMA is to broadcast on MTV channels around the world Sunday, November 9 at 9pm CET from The Hydro in Glasgow.
