Placido Domingo has made classical music history by becoming the first vocalist to win the prestigious Wolf Prize in Israel.
The tenor shares the arts achievement award with British conductor Sir Simon Rattle.
Both will receive $100,000 (£63,000).
Domingo, 70, and Rattle will accept their joint awards during a ceremony in Jerusalem later this year (12).
Last year's (11) recipient of the Wolf Prize was artist Rosemarie Trockel.
