Plácido Domingo, the famous conductor and opera star, will launch the Los Angeles Dodgers' 2011 baseball season by singing the US National Anthem before their opening game begins.
The celebrated tenor will belt out the Star Spangled Banner before the Dodgers' game with World Series champions the San Francisco Giants on Thursday (March 31) at Dodger Stadium.
It won't be Domingo's first performance at the sports venue - he played there in 1994 as part of a Three Tenors spectacular with Jose Carreras and the late Luciano Pavarotti.
He also performed the National Anthem at the stadium before a New York Mets game in 1988, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The 70-year-old Spaniard has had more opera roles than any other tenor.
