Jason Donovan: 'coke Nearly Killed Me'....
Australian pop star Jason Donovan refused to give up Bingeing On Cocaine - Despite Knowing It Could Kill Him.The former soap star was on the road to self-destruction as he battled his deadly habit during the 1990s - and admits even his then fiancee, Angela Malloch, couldn't save him.In his new autobiography, Between The Lines: My Story Uncut, Donovan writes, "I loved my cocaine."Line after line, gram after gram, night after night until I could physically take no more and my body would simply have to shut down, to switch itself off, so that I would stop."I had fallen in love with Ange and we wanted to be together but as the months went by and I carried on like this, she simply couldn't cope."Donovan has now been clean for six years.The Australian pop star goes on to say how he credits his seven-year-old daughter for saving him from his deadly drug addiction.The former soap star admits he celebrated daughter Jemma's birth in 2000 with a cocaine binge - but was eventually forced to battle his drug demons after realising the effect his habit would have on his child.
He says, "I dealt with this piece of life-changing news in the only way I knew how - by getting completely off my head.
"I'm not going to pretend for one moment that there was some great big fairytale ending to my story the night that Jemma came into my world. I didn't turn to (wife) Ange (Malloch) and declare my love for her and I didn't look into the eyes of my firstborn as I held her in my arms and promise there and then that I would never take drugs again.
"I was still using drugs, still going on the odd bender, but as time went on the lure of them was no longer as appealing to me as it had once been."
Donovan - who also has son Zach, six, with Malloch - insists he has been clean for six years.
