After a year of the girls ruling the music scene, the boys look set to fight back in a night of great music and bad behaviour at this year’s explosive Shockwaves NME Awards.
It’s Arctic Monkeys who lead the charge with an impressive six nominations, Kasabian are hot on their heels with five nominations while Muse clock up four, but Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys have a huge battle on their hands as they go head-to-head in five categories – Best British Band, Best Live band, Best Album, Best Video and a new category for 2010, the Giving It Back Award recognising bands amazing acts of generosity towards their fans.
Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys said: “It’s a good thing knowing we’re still up for these awards – Kasabian have said that there aren’t any other proper rock bands apart from us and them. I don’t necessarily agree completely but I know what they’re saying. I think we’re just co-existing nicely.”
The girls have their own battle on their hands as Florence And The Machine goes head to head with Lady Gaga in the Best Solo Artist and Best Dancefloor Filler categories. These ladies have ruled the music scene for the past 12 months but which will emerge victorious on the night?
The winners will be announced at the Shockwaves NME Awards on February 24, 2010 at the legendary O2 Academy Brixton. The awards will be packed with the who’s who of the music world, with performances from the biggest and best acts of the last 12 months.
