The Invisible

The Invisible

Highly-skilled alchemists The Invisible have woven together strands of diverse sounds to create a fresh, new musical elixir. A unique strain of danceable, multi-layered alternative pop music imbued with ethereal yet gutsy vocals.

The Londoners have been turning up the heat with increasingly wonderful live shows, a long since sold out 7”, and previous single, Monster’s Waltz . Hearts already melted include those of Hot Chip and Foals, both of which personally approached The Invisible with invites to join them for live dates, XFM’s prophet of great music John Kennedy, and Radio 1 DJs Gilles Peterson and Zane Lowe, with the latter declaring Monster’s Waltz his ‘Hottest Record In The World’.

All this, combined with a fresh series of forthcoming gigs, including support slots with Doves and Foals, their magical forthcoming album and new single London Girl , suggests a bright future is increasingly visible for The Invisible…

London Girl and the trio’s eponymous debut LP are sumptuous slices of music wideranging in their many, sometimes hard to pinpoint references. A distinct nod is given to TV On The Radio, Sonic Youth and Radiohead, whilst also present are traces of Talking Heads, Bloc Party and LCD Soundsystem.

Classical, medieval church music, more digitized dance sounds and Prince all simmer somewhere beneath the surface too. Through their expert musicianship and songwriting, The Invisible forge something altogether new, which they describe as; “paradoxically, like something fresh and alien but also completely familiar; something undiscovered which you’ve never heard before, but that’s always existed.”

Production throughout is handled by Matthew Herbert, and the band are the first group the celebrated pioneer has been inspired to work with in such a way – Herbert’s influence can be heard in the balancing of subtle electronica with more natural, organic elements.

The album also features a significant and sizable contribution by songstress supreme Eska. Towards the end of 2006 three friends with impeccable musical pedigrees – Dave Okumu, Tom Herbert and Leo Taylor – started work on what was initially intended as a solo project for Dave.

A beautiful album gradually emerged, and via the process of its creation the three fused into a fully-fledged trio - The Invisible was born. Prior to this exciting new chapter Dave worked with an array of artists including Roisin Murphy, Courtney Pine and Amy Winehouse; whilst Leo and Tom’s outside endeavors include playing with; XX Teens, Bugz In The Attic, Paul Epworth and Polar Bear, in addition to other notable names.

The Invisible’s London Girl single and self-titled The Invisible album will both be
