We are going to be treated to blockbusters, comedies, documentaries, and indie gems: there really is going to be something for everyone.

We take a look at the five films that we are most excited about here at FemaleFirst.

- X-Men: Days of Future Past (released 22nd May)

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a film that I have been looking forward to ever since they announced that Bryan Singer was returning to the franchise.

Singer was behind X-Men and X2 and it is fantastic to see him return to this great franchise... I really can't wait to see what he has done with this latest instalment.

Days of Future Past is a sequel to X-Men: First Class, but will see a whole host of actors from the original franchise return: it really does boast an impressive cast list.

James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender & Ian McKellen are back to play Charles Xavier & Magneto, while Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult & Peter Dinklage are just some of the other stars on board.

The movie will follow Wolverine, as he is sent into the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

If you are looking for movies on an epic scale, then look no further than Days of Future Past, it promises to be the biggest and best X-Men film yet.

The movie already has the critics raving, and it has smash hit written all over it.

- The Fault In Our Stars (released 19th June)

If you haven't read The Fault In Our Stars, then it is a book that you really should check out, as it is a truly terrific read.

The movie is an adaptation of the bestselling John Green book, and will mark the return of Josh Boone to the director's chair.

The Fault In Our Stars follows Hazel and Gus, two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group, who fall in love and are swept on an unforgettable journey.

Shailene Woodley & Ansel Elgort take on the roles of Hazel & Gus, while Willem Dafoe, Laura Dern & Nat Wolff are also on board.

This is a story that is so much more about cancer, and I cannot wait to see how the tale & the characters translate on to the big screen.

- Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (released 17th July)

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was one of my favourite films of 2011 - I really did like it more than I thought I would - and I have been looking forward to the sequel for quite some time.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes sees Matt Reeves take over the director's chair, and he has brought together a new cast.

Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, and Jason Clarke are just some of the new faces on board, while Andy Serkis is back.

Serkis' performance as Caesar was a major highlight of the first film, and I am delighted to see him return and explore this character further. He really is the master when it comes to motion capture performances.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.

They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

You will see from the below trailer, that this is another summer film that has an epic feel to it... it really does promise to be bigger and better than the original. Fingers crossed it lives up to this expectation.

- Guardians of the Galaxy (released 1st August)

No summer is complete without a Marvel film, and Guardians of the Galaxy is set to blast on to the big screen this August.

We will be introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time with this film, as this will be the final Marvel movie before Phase 2 is brought to a close with Avengers: Age of Ultron next year.

James Gunn is back in the director's chair, in what will be the biggest movie of his filmmaking career to date.

Chris Pratt is an actor on the rise, and he will lead an all-star cast that includes Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Benicio Del Toro, and Karen Gillan.

In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.

Guardians of the Galaxy really is Marvel's most adventurous and daring movie to date, and I think that they really are going to pull it off.

- The Rover (released 22nd August)

Away from the blockbusters, there are going to be plenty of dramas to get your teeth into, but The Rover is the one that I am particularly looking forward to.

I was a huge fan of Animal Kingdom back in 2011, which was the directorial debut of David Michôd... he returns with The Rover.

Michod has also penned the screenplay - the movie is based on a story by the director and Joel Edgerton - and it promises to be another gritty drama.

A loner tracks the gang who stole his car from a desolate town in the Australian outback with the forced assistance of a wounded guy left behind in the wake of the theft.

The movie sees Michôd reunite with Guy Pearce, while Robert Pattinson & Scoot McNairy are also on board.

The Rover is a very different role from Pattinson, and I am excited to see him spread his acting wings over the next couple of years: he really does have some interesting films in the pipeline.

Other movies that we are also looking forward to include Edge of Tomorrow, Maleficent, Fruitvale Station, and The Expendables 3.
