Transformers: Age of Extinction has passed the $600 million mark after just over two weeks on release.

Age of Extinction is the fourth film in the Transformers franchise, and marks the return of Michael Bay to the director's chair.

So far, the movie has grossed over $624 million at the global box office: it took $100 million in its first weekend on release in the U.S.

Age of Extinction is now also the highest grossing film in China, earning US $225.1m (1,396M RMB) in just 12 days of release, surpassing the prior record holder Avatar.

It is all change in the Transformers franchise this time around, as Mark Wahlberg takes over the lead role from Shia LaBeouf. Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, and Stanley Tucci are just some of the other names on board.

Age of Extinction has become the fifth film to surpass the $600 million mark: X-Men: Days of Future Past, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider Man 2 and Maleficent have all also achieved that feat.

Days of Future Past is currently the highest grossing film of 2014, having taken over $726 million worldwide.

However, it does look like that total will come under huge pressure from Age of Extinction over the next couple of weeks.

Transformers: Age of Extinction it out now.
