Sony adds two mystery Marvel movie release dates for 2023
Sony has added more fuel to the fire by reshuffling their domestic release calendar and adding two new dates for Sony/Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects in 2023.
Sony gained the rights to around 900 Marvel characters in the 1990s, including Spider-Man, at the same time 20th Century Fox picked up the rights to The X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Since then, Sony has held on tight to their Spider-Man rights.
In addition to Kraven the Hunter’s January 2023 slot, two other spots have opened up for later that year; June 23rd and October 6th have been named as release dates for new Sony/Marvel movies, but what films these may be, we’re not quite sure...
Uncharted movie gets trailer
Upcoming film, Uncharted, which is based on the video game franchise by Naughty Dog, has finally gotten a trailer, and fans seem pretty excited to see Nathan Drake on the big screen.
Tom Holland, known for his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU, will be playing the role of Nathan Drake, a skilled and knowledgeable explorer, and fans of both the young actor and the game franchise seem pleased with the casting choice.
The trailer shows Holland in action as a bartender before revealing how he looks in the classic Nathan Drake getup. The film looks packed full of action and appears to be a decent adaptation, but we will have to wait until February 11th, 2022 to find out for sure.
Hocus Pocus 2 adds Sam Richardson to cast
Hocus Pocus 2, a sequel to 1993 film Hocus Pocus, is gaining decent momentum by adding another cast member to the already exciting roster.
Sam Richardson (The Tomorrow War, Veep) will be starring in 2022’s classic Halloween sequel. The original movie followed three witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) who are accidently resurrected by a teenage boy (Omri Katz) on Halloween night in modern Salem, Massachusetts.
While the 1993 film wasn’t a howling success at the time, it has since gained a strong following. The plot for the sequel will seemingly be similar to its predecessor, although it will be a trio of young women who will revive the Sanderson sisters.
A crew member has died after prop gun mishap on Alec Baldwin movie set
Alec Baldwin has been confirmed as the one who discharged a prop gun on the set of upcoming film Rust, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring the movie’s director.
The Sante Fe County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set, after responding to a 911 call that reported the shooting.
Reports state that there is now an active investigation being conducted to figure out how the gun was used, and what was fired from it. Sadly, this is not the first time a situation like this has occurred within cinema; in 1994, Brandon Lee was shot by a prop gun on the set of The Crow, unfortunately resulting in the actor’s death.
World War Hulk film rumoured to begin filming next year
Marvel Studios are rumoured to have a standalone Hulk film in development, titled World War Hulk, and filming is slated to start shooting next year (2022).
An MCU adaptation of the comics’ World War Hulk storyline is rumoured to begin filming very soon. The Hulk has been a huge part of the MCU since the release of The Incredible Hulk in 2008, with Edward Norton portraying Bruce Banner.
2012 saw the role of The Hulk recast, as Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner joined The Avengers; he has played the lovable scientist ever since. Rumours state that this upcoming feature may follow Disney+ series She-Hulk, which features Ruffalo’s Banner in a supporting role.
It is said that the reason for this standalone movie comes from Marvel/Disney obtaining rights to the Hulk, from Universal Studios.
Transformers 7 wraps filming
Steven Caple Jr., director of the upcoming Transformers movie, has confirmed that the film has finished filming with a photo of first-generation Optimus Prime.
The seventh movie in the franchise is titled Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and is said to pick up seven years after the events of 2018’s spinoff, Bumblebee, and will be inspired by the beloved cartoon series from the 1990s.
Anthony Ramos, star of In the Heights and Hamilton, will be starring as one of the lead human characters named Noah, alongside Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah) who will be playing Elena.
In an attempt to refresh the franchise, Transformers 7 will feature new factions such as the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons, with the Autobots and Decepticons returning as well.
Guardians 3 has cast dozens of secret roles
James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, has confirmed that many more roles have been cast for the upcoming MCU film than have been announced to the public.
Gunn has recently worked on the successful revamp of 2016’s Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad which released this year (2021), and went down well with DC fans.
Guardians 3 will be seeing the iconic group of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) return, as well as some recognisable foes and friends, including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
Fans may be left speculating who these mystery roles will be until the film’s release date on May 5th, 2023, but we may get some more details sooner than we think...
