The Martian has made it two weeks at the top of the U.S. box office as it took a further $37 million over the weekend.
The Martian continues to thrill audiences around the world and comfortably held off the challenge this week to remain the #1 movie in the U.S.
There was also no move for Hotel Transylvania 2, as it stayed put at number two. The movie took over $20 million this weekend to hold off Pan, the one and only new entry inside the top ten this week.
Pan, which marks the return of Joe Wright to the director's chair for the first time since his adaptation of Anna Karenina, was the highest new entry at number three. Despite a big promotional campaign, it was a disappointing opening for the film, taking just $15,5 million during its first weekend on release.
The Intern was the third non-mover inside the top five this week as the Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro comedy stayed at number four. Sicario rounded off the top five as it dropped two places from last week's number three.
Sicario is another movie that has been met with critical acclaim in recent weeks and, along with The Martian, is a film that is being tipped to be a potential Oscar contender.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials fell out of the top five this week as the movie dropped a single place to number six. The Walk was the only film that was on the up this week as it jumped from eleven to number seven.
Black Mass and Everest were both two place fallers this week as they dropped from six and seven to eight and nine. Black Mass, which sees Johnny Depp take on the central role of Whitey Bulger, played at the BFI London Film Festival over the weekend.
The Visit was also a two place faller - down from last week's number eight - as it rounded off the top ten at number ten.
