The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book continues to thrill UK audiences as it makes it a second week as the number one film at the box office.

The Jon Favreau-directed film, which is a live-action adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling classic, has taken a further £8 million over the weekend to comfortably hold onto the top spot.

The movie has grossed over $548 million in its first two weeks on global release and has been a huge hit with the critics. It is one course to be one of the biggest films of the year.

Eye in the Sky was the only movie on the up this week, as the critically acclaimed film moved one place from three to this week's number two.

Bastille Day was the highest new entry as the Idris Elba-led action movie opened at number three. The movie sees James Watkins in the director's chair for the first time since the success of The Woman in Black back in 2012.

This is the second of two films in the top three for Elba; who has brought the character of Shere Khan to life in The Jungle Book.

Despite grossing over $900 million and being the highest-grossing film of the year so far, Zootropolis was on the way down this week, slipping from two to number four. The movie has now grossed over £20 million at the UK box office.

Horror movie Friend Request was the second new of four new entries as it rounded off the top five. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fell out of the top five for the first time as it slipped two places to number six.

Eddie the Eagle and The Huntsman: Winter's War were also down as they finished the weekend at seven and eight.

The top ten was rounded off by two further new entries as Shakespeare Live from RSC and Miles Ahead were new at nine and ten. Miles Ahead is a biopic movie about Miles Davis and saw Don Cheadle take on the central role as well as make his feature film directorial debut with the project.
