Featuring an all-star cast including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris, Matthew Rhys, Freida Pinto, Rohan Chand, Peter Mullan, Jack Reynor, Eddie Marsan, Tom Hollander, and even the movie’s director Andy Serkis comes what looks to be the darkest Jungle Book movie adaptation ever, in Mowgli. This week, the first trailer for the film has been released, which you can check out below:
Mowgli will follow the story of the titular youngster; a human child who’s brought up in the jungles of India by a pack of wolves. Learning that the jungle is a dangerous place for those who don’t acclimatise, Mowgli is accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own, save for the tiger, Shere Khan.
Finding direction from a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli will be forced to adapt and do his all to survive.
Chand will play Mowgli, whilst Bale is Bagheera, Serkis is Baloo, and Cumberbatch is Shere Khan. Blanchett plays sinister snake Kaa, with Harris as female wolf Nisha, and Mullan as leader of the wolf pack, Akela. Marsan is Nisha’s mate, Vihaan, and Hollander is scavenging hyena, Tabaqui. On the human side of things are Rhys as Lockwood, and Pinto as Messua.
Nikki Penny serves as executive producer on the movie, with Steve Kloves, Jonathan Cavendish and David Barron all working as producers. Kloves’ daughter Callie Kloves is responsible for the screenplay.
The creative team meanwhile is made up of director of photography Michael Seresin, production designer Gary Freeman, and editors Mark Sanger, Alex Marquez and Jeremiah O’Driscoll. Nitin Sawhney composed the music for the flick.
Mowgli comes to cinemas across the UK on October 19, 2018.
