Mark Wahlberg is set to return to the big screen this December as he leads an all-star cast in new movie The Gambler.
The Gambler sees Wahlberg team up with filmmaker Rupert Wyatt, as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since the huge success of Rise of the Planet of the Apes back in 2011.
Wahlberg takes on the role of Jim Bennett, who splits his time between being an English professor and a high-stakes gambler. The brand new trailer for the film has arrived and, as you can see, Jim has got himself into a spot of bother:
This autumn will see a whole host of great cast lists, and The Gambler is just one of the films that has brought some terrific acting talent together. Wahlberg is joined by Jessica Lange, brie Larson, Alvin Ing, John Goodman, and Michael Kenneth Williams.
Jim Bennett (Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Williams) and offers his own life as collateral. Always one-step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Lange) in his wake.
He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett's future. As his relationship with a student (Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance...
Wahlberg has already enjoyed huge success this year, as Transformers: Age of Extinction is still the highest grossing movie of 2014 so far - and he looks set to close out the year with another terrific performance.
The Gambler is released 19th December
