This year (2022), both TV and cinema are stirring up a storm. In the coming months, movies such as Thor: Love and Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick will grace the big screen; however, the small screen has some brilliant entries, too.
Persuasion, starring 50 Shades of Grey and Bad Times at the El Royale actress Dakota Johnson, is a new and upcoming feature set to arrive on Netflix in June of this year.
The film will be an adaptation of Jane Austen’s book of the same name, and going by the recently-released first-look images, is likely to be an interesting feature.
Persuasion follows Anne Elliot (Johnson), a woman who lives with her snobby family who, by the sounds of it, don’t appear to be in the position to turn their noses up at anything.
Anne rarely follows the crowd, and is a woman with modern sensibilities and definitely knows who she is.
When Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis), the handsome, wonderful man that she once let slip by her, comes crashing back into her life and her affairs, Anne realises that she must now pick between allowing the past to be put behind her, or to listen to her heart when second chances come knocking.
Will Anne get what she wants, if she even knows what that is?
In addition to Johnson and Jarvis, Persuasion also stars Nikki Amuka-Bird (Old), Mia McKenna-Bruce (Get Even), along with Richard E. Grant (Marvel’s Loki) and Henry Golding (Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins).
While the first-look images don’t give away too much, and only showcases three of the film’s cast members, they do paint a picture of the type of movie audiences may come to expect; a stylish, period piece with potentially a lot to say.
There have been many features that have been adapted from Austen’s works, perhaps most notably Pride and Prejudice (2005) starring Keira Knightley. Now, it will be wonderful to see yet another movie take on one of the author’s brilliant works.
Persuasion will release exclusively onto Netflix on July 15th, 2022.
