Minions has stormed to the top of the UK box office and has ended the reign of Jurassic World.

Minions

Minions took over £11.5 million over the weekend to comfortably see off the challenge from Jurassic World and topple the billion dollar movie from the number one spot.

We first met the Minions in Despicable Me and the Despicable Me 2, but this is the first time we have seen these colourful creations get their own spin-off movie - a second could well be in the pipeline after this summer.

Sandra Bullock lead an all-star voice cast list as she brought the character of Scarlett Overkill to life. Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve, Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, and Geoffrey Rush were also on board, while Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin were in the director's chair.

Jurassic World slipped just a single place this week to number two, as it took a further £5.7 million at the box office. Despite pressure from Inside Out, the film has remained in the top spot in the U.S.

The movie has now grossed over £40 million in the UK alone and will be one of the biggest movies of the year at the end of 2015.

There was no move for Spy at number three, while Mr Holmes also stayed put at four. Empire Strikes Back still continues to perform well on a limited release and jumped from last week's number nine to this week's number five,

Entourage was down one at six, While Knock Knock was the second highest new entry inside the top ten at number seven.

The Longest Ride was also on the slip this week as it was down one at eight. San Andreas was our biggest faller this week as it dropped three places from six to number nine.

Slow West, which marks the return of Michael Fassbender to the big screen in John Maclean's feature film directorial debut, was the third and final new entry as it opened at number ten.
