Matthew Vaughn has thrown his support behind Guardians of the Galaxy, claiming that it should have received more nominations during the awards season.
Guardians of the Galaxy was one of two Marvel movies to be released in 2014, and went on to be a huge critical and commercial success. And while it did pick up some technical and special effects nods during the awards season, it has not received the recognition that Vaughn believe it should have.
Speaking to Hey U Guys, the director said: "That film was a lot harder to make than films where you just plonk a camera here and there and have a good actor.
"It's crazy - Guardians should have been nominated. Most of the movies that are nominated for Oscars put me to sleep."
Guardians of the Galaxy was a brand new franchise for Marvel in 2014, as well as being their most adventurous film to date. The movie saw James Gunn at the helm of a Marvel film for the first time, and it went on to gross in excess of $772 million at the global box office. A sequel is already in the pipeline and is set to hit the big screen in 2017 with Gunn in the director's chair.
As for Vaughn, he is back next week with his new film Kingsman: The Secret Service, which will be the first film for the director since the success of X-Men: First Class back in 2011. Kingsman: The Secret Service is back on the comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, and sees Vaughn reunite with Jane Goldman to pen the screenplay.
The British director has brought together a terrific cast as Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Strong, Jack Davenport, and Mark Hamill are all on board.
Kingsman: The Secret Service is released 29th January.
