Star of one of this year’s (2021) most incredible horror movies, Annabelle Wallis, is officially speaking with iconic director James Wan about a potential sequel to follow on from Malignant, which is one of the most shocking and incredible features to hit cinemas this year so far.
Malignant followed Madison (Wallis), a woman who suffers with the visions of strangers being murdered. She cannot understand why she sees these things, but after a physical fight with her abusive husband, old memories begin to resurface, and family that was once forgotten raise their ugly heads...
Wan is known for directing the Saw franchise, as well as being the mastermind behind The Conjuring universe. Now, it seems another film series is unfolding, as he and Wallis have begun speaking about Malignant 2.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Wallis shared some details of conversations she and Wan have had. While specifics of these discussions were not disclosed, Wallis did confirm that they were happening, which is a very exciting concept as the ending of this horror left audiences with a few questions.
When asked about any conversations about a future sequel, Wallis said: "There’s plenty of ideas swirling around. We were very, very flattered by the reception and I think taken aback... So yeah, there’s lots of conversations happening."
While some viewers have described Malignant as an average horror, some have praised it as a masterpiece, which we believe to be a much more fitting description. The story was outstanding and Wallis’ performance was stellar.
The cinematography was simply incredible, with inventive and captivating shots holding your attention from beginning to end, and the musical score being reminiscent of older horror movies while still being modern and pivotal to each scene.
Malignant is a must-see for any fan of horror, and of Wan.
Audiences were met with a fresh, new narrative; something so frightening and unmissable. Despite some negative reviews, the film definitely tested the limits of fear and pushed its viewers over the edge; there is no doubt that if a sequel does occur, that it will be another shockingly brilliant creation.
The ending of Malignant left viewers with quite a few questions, as Madison’s struggles don’t appear to be at an end; the villain of this movie seems to be lurking under the surface, and is highly likely to make an appearance in the potential follow-up.
