Director of 2020’s Extraction, starring Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Chris Hemsworth, Sam Hargrave, released a video onto his Instagram which gave audiences a sneak peek at the snowy setting for his upcoming film, Extraction 2.

Extraction, released as a Netflix Original last year (2020), followed Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a special forces operative turned mercenary soldier who had been given the task of rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord in Bangladesh.
The film was an incredibly successful directorial debut for Hargrave, so his return to direct the sequel was only fitting. This Netflix original broke the platform’s records, and became the most-watched feature in the company’s history in 2020.
Extraction is based on the graphic novel Ciudad, which was created by Ande Parks, Anthony and Joe Russo, Eric Skillman, and Fernando León González. The feature drew immense interest upon its release, perhaps due to its main actor, Hemsworth, who did a stellar job as Rake.
With the success that Extraction had, it was only a matter of time until news of a sequel would arise; the follow-up has the potential to be bigger, better and more explosive, which will intrigue fans of the first movie.
In a video released on his Instagram, Hargrave takes a brief walk through some thick snow in Prague, where filming has just begun. The first day of shooting for the sequel seems to show a more mellow, calm day in the life of Rake.
Hemsworth’s character may be recovering from the events of the previous film in this chilly climate; a completely different setting than we saw in Extraction. A teaser trailer released in September gave a recap on the final events of the first movie, and led audiences into the circumstances in which the sequel will open into.
Despite Rake seemingly dead after his last mission, his stark survival will hopefully be delved into in the sequel, spilling all about how the battered and bruised hero made it out alive.
Extraction was an intense, intriguing, and highly entertaining action thrill ride, with Hemsworth taking on the role of Rake with perfection. The cinematography was praised for being simply stunning, the cast and story were incredible, so the sequel is already set to be a new and thrilling journey.
