Kung Fu Panda 3 Narrowly Holds Off 10 Cloverfield Lane At UK Box Office

Kung Fu Panda 3 has narrowly held on to the number one spot at the UK box office after a battle with 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Kung Fu Panda 3 has made it a second week at the top of the box office as it took a further £1.7 million over the weekend. The movie has now taken over £7 million in the UK alone and is expected to perform well over the Easter holiday.

However, the animation film faced a tough battle this week as 10 Cloverfield Lane, the 'sequel' to Cloverfield almost toppled it from the number one spot. The movie has been met with acclaim and sees Mary Elizabeth Winstead star alongside John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr.

10 Cloverfield Lane took £1.6 million in its opening weekend on release and had to settle for the second spot. There was no move for London Has Fallen as it stayed put at number three - it was the only non-mover inside the top ten this week.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant continues to struggle as it slipped two places to this week's number four. So far, the blockbuster has grossed just over £3 million, which is much less than you would have expected.

The Boy was the second of the new entries as the horror film opened at number five. High-Rise, which marks the return of Ben Wheatley to the director's chair, was just behind at number six.

The movie sees Tom Hiddleston return to the big screen as he teams up with the British filmmaker for the first time. The movie is as an adaptation of the J.G Ballard novel of the same name.

Deadpool fell out of the top five for the first time this week as it slipped three places from four to number seven. It was one of three films that fell three places and was one of this week's biggest fallers. However, the movie has grossed over £36 million at the UK box office in recent weeks.

Hail, Caesar! and Grimsby were also down three as they ended the weekend at eight and nine. Kapoor and Sons was the fourth and final new entry as the film rounded off the top ten.

A bumper weekend lies ahead as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to take on Zootropolis, which is the latest offering from Disney. Dawn of Justice is one of the most anticipated comic book movies of the year while Zootropolis is already closing in the $600 million mark worldwide.
