It's hard to believe that we are already in July and 2016 has been a great movie year if you are a fan of animation film.
We have seen hit after hit after hit as this genre of film has raked in the cash in the first six and a half months of this year... and there are more films on the horizon that are set to do well.
Ice Age: Collision Couse is released this week and is set to be another successful instalment of the much-loved franchise. We take a look at some of the most successful animation films of 2016 and the money that they have grossed at the box office.
- Zootropolis - $1,021.6 billion
When it comes to animation films of 2016, Zootropolis has been the biggest critical and commercial success - it really has been a monster hit.
Released back in March, Zootropolis is the fifty-fifth feature from Walt Disney Animation and their first since the success of Big Hero 6 the year before.
It is always exciting when a Disney film is released and Zootropolis did not disappoint - winning over critics and audiences around the world.
Zootropolis is not afraid to deliver a very moral lesson about intolerance and prejudice - this message is beautifully delivered by showing that all these animals have learned to live together in peace and harmony.
Zootropolis is one of two movies to gross over $1 billion this year - the first being Captain America: Civil War. It topped the U.S. box office along the way.
It remains the second highest grossing film of the year and fourth highest grossing animated film of all time; behind Frozen, Minions, and Toy Story 3.
Zootropolis is one of the most acclaimed films of the year and could well be in the Best Animated Feature Oscar race next year.
- Finding Dory - $651 million
No year is complete without the release of a Pixar film and Finding Dory has blasted onto cinema screens this summer.
The movie is the sequel to the much-loved finding Nemo and comes over a decade after the release of the first film. Needless to say, it is going to be a huge hit.
The movie has already topped the U.S. box office and has grossed $651 million worldwide - and there's still a couple of weeks to go until it is released here in the UK.
The movie sees Andrew Stanton back in the director's chair while Ellen DeGeneres is back to reprise the role of Dory - the character that sent her star rocketing back in 2003.
DeGeneres is joined on the cast list by Albert Brooks, Ed O'Neill, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Hayden Rolence, and Kaitlin Olson.
Finding Dory will be the one and only Pixar film to be released this year and is on course to be another HUGE hit for the studio. It comes after the success of both Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur last year.
- Kung Fu Panda 3 - $519 million
It was back in 2008 when we were introduced to the character of Po for the first time in Kung Fu Panda. Eight years on, and the third film in the popular franchise has been released.
The movie saw Jennifer Yuh Nelson - who directed the second film - back at the helm, as she teamed up with Alessandro Carloni for the first time.
Jack Black was also back as Po and was joined on the cast list by regulars Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, and Seth Rogen. Bryan Cranston, J.K. Simmons and Kate Hudson were the big new additions this time around.
Kung Fu Panda 3 was another critical hit and it went on to enjoy more box office success - taking $519 million worldwide. It topped the U.S. and UK box office alongside the way.
While the film was a big success, it didn't take as much money as its two predecessors: Kung Fu Panda took $631 million in 2008 and Kung Fu Panda 2 grossed $665 million in 2011.
- The Angry Birds Movie - $341.6 million
Angry Birds is a huge computer game success and was brought to the big screen for the first time earlier this year.
The Angry Birds was one of the new animation franchises to be launched this year with Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly in the director's chair and Jon Vitti penning the screenplay.
The movie saw Jason Sudeikis voice the central role of Red, while Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, and Sean Penn all also lent their voices to the film.
The Angry Birds Movie has gone on to be a box-office success, taking over $341 million worldwide; easily making back its $73 million budget.
The film took $106.1 million in the U.S. alone and is currently the second highest grossing video film game of all time - behind Warcraft.
However, the film did not do well critically and struggled to gain some positive review. It remains to be seen if we will get a sequel.
- The Secret Life of Pets - $173.9 million
The Secret Life of Pets is a movie that is enjoying success right now and is currently top of both the U.S. and UK box office.
The Secret Life of Pets comes from the studio that brought us Despicable Me and sees Chris Renaud back in the director's chair and teaming up with Yarrow Cheney for the first time.
The movie brought together another impressive cast list as Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Steve Coogan, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, and Albert Brooks are just some of the names that are on board.
So far, the movie has performed well critically but has been struggling to match its animation rivals in terms of cash. The film may have topped the box office, but it has grossed just $173.9 million - however it has made back its budget of $75 million.
The studio has enjoyed huge success with Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and Minions in recent years, but it doesn't look like The Secret Life of Pets is going to reach those dizzy heights.
Ice Age: Collision Course is out now.
