Kung Fu Panda 3 is a number one hit in the UK as it stormed to the top of the box office in its opening weekend, holding off the challenge from The Divergent Series: Allegiant.

Kung Fu Panda 3 took £4.7 million over the weekend and Allegiant, which is the third film in the Divergent series, was no match for the animation film.

The third film in the franchise is another big hit and, so far, has grossed over $355 million at the global box office.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant was the second highest new entry inside the top ten this week, as the sequel opened at number two.

This is the penultimate film in the series and sees Shailene Woodley back in the central role of Tris Prior. The movie took over £1.8 million but was no match for the might of Kung Fu Panda 3.

London Has Fallen has not been received overly well by the critics but the movie still continues to perform well here in the UK. The film did slip two places to number three but took a further £1.8 million - narrowly missing out on the second spot.

Deadpool was a one place faller, as the comic book movie finished the weekend at number four. Hail, Caesar! which opened at number two last week, was down three to round off the top five.

Grimsby fell out of the top five as it slipped two places to number six. The Witch was the third new entry inside the top ten as the critically acclaimed horror movie opened at number seven. The movie has been winning over critics and audiences since it started screening on the festival circuit last year and it looks set to be one of the best horror films of 2016.

How To Be Single was down two at eight while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip was this week's biggest faller; slipping four places from five to nine.

Stop motion animation film Anomalisa was the fourth and final new entry as the Oscar nominated film opened at number ten.
