Kelly Macdonald has heaped praise on the child stars of new film Swallows and Amazons.
Swallows and Amazons is set to hit the big screen this August and is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Arthur Ransome.
Macdonald will take on the role of Mrs. Walker, who is on holiday with her children; played by Dane Hughes, Orla Hill, Teddie-Rose Malleson-Allen, Bobby McCulloch.
Speaking on the red carpet at the film's premiere, the actress had nothing but praise for her young co-stars: "Philippa Lowthorpe, the director, is a genius at casting children. I saw the film a few weeks ago and it is mindblowing - they are just great. You don't even focus on the adults in there. They really are a talented bunch."
Swallows and Amazons filmed in the Lake District last summer and, while the weather wasn't great, Macdonald says that the shoot was a lot of fun.
She continued: "We were a bit unfortunate for the weather as it wasn't a glorious summer. It was authentic - very British. It was just a really lovely... it wasn't like going to work and we were all just out for a play."
Swallows and Amazons will mark the feature film directorial debut for Lowthorpe, who is best known for her work in TV with the likes of Call the Midwife, and Jamaica Inn.
As for Macdonald, she has also completed work on The Journey is the Destination and is currently working on Okja, which is directed by Joon-ho Bong.
Swallows and Amazons is released 19th August.
