Inherent Vice
Inherent Vice Banner Poster

Inherent Vice is already one of the most anticipated films of 2015, and Paul Thomas Anderson is back in the director's chair.

Anderson has been behind great movies such as Magnolia and There Will Be Blood, but Inherent Vice is his first film since The Master, as he brings the novel by Thomas Pynchon to the big screen.

Inherent Vice will see Anderson reunite with actor Joaquin Phoenix - who he worked with on his last film The Master - while Jena Malone, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, Owen Wilson, and Maya Rudolph make up a terrific cast list - it really is one of the best ensemble casts of early 2015.

When private eye Doc Sportello's (Phoenix) ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin…well, easy for her to say.

It's the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that "love" is another of those words going around at the moment, like "trip" or "groovy," that's being way too overused-except this one usually leads to trouble.

Inherent Vice is the first film for Phoenix since he enjoyed critical success at the beginning of 2014 with Her as he reunites with the filmmaker.

Inherent Vice is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender - and has been for some time - so it could find itself in the Best Picture race by the beginning of next year.

Anderson's pervious movies The Master and There Will Be Blood were both awards fodder and this new film could well continue that fine tradition.

Inherent Vice is released 30th January 2015.
