Inherent Vice is another movie that has been whipping up a storm in recent months as Paul Thomas Anderson is set to make his return to the director's chair - and he really has been behind some great movies during his career.

The Master and There Will Be Blood have both been movies that have found themselves in the Oscar mix in recent years, and Inherent Vice is being tipped as a possible Oscar contender when the nominations are announced at the beginning of 2015.

Inherent Vice is the first film for Anderson since the critical success of The Master back in 2012, and sees the director bring Thomas Pynchon's novel of the same name to the big screen. As well as being in the director's chair, Anderson has also adapted the novel into a screenplay.

We are going to be treated to some fantastic ensemble cast movies next year, and Inherent Vice is one of the early ones to watch out for. The film will see Anderson reunite with leading man Joaquin Phoenix, who he worked with on The Master.

Phoenix is set to take on the central role of Doc Sportello, and is joined on the cast list by Reese Witherspoon - it is their first film together since the success of Walk The Line - Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Eric Roberts. It really is a mouth-watering line up of some truly terrific acting talent, it is no real surprise that so many believe that Inherent Vice could pick up more than one of two Oscar nods when the nominations are revealed.

When private eye Doc Sportello's (Phoenix) ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin... well, easy for her to say.

It's the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that 'love' is another of those words going around at the moment, like 'trip' or 'groovy,' that's being way too overused - except this one usually leads to trouble.

Inherent Vice premiered at the New York Film Festival earlier this year, where it was met well by the critics - I am really looking forward to seeing what Anderson has delivered with this film.

The movie is already in the mix at the Satellite Award - however, it did miss out on the major gongs such as Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director. Despite this, I do expect it to be in the mix at the Oscars.

Anderson already has a Best Director Oscar nomination under his belt for his work on There Will Be Blood, which was nominated for Best Picture and saw Daniel Day Lewis win his second Best Actor Oscar for his central and unforgettable performance. And Anderson could well find himself in the mix once again.

Inherent Vice is a movie that just about everyone seems to have been talking about all year, and I am excited to see Anderson back in the director's chair and bring together such an exciting cast.

Inherent Vice is released 30th January.
