Abbie Cornish

Abbie Cornish says that she jumped at the chance to star in RoboCop because the original film was part of her childhood.

RoboCop hits the big screen this weekend, and see Cornish star alongside Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton.

Cornish will take on the role of Clara Murphy in the new film, which is directed by José Padilha.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, the actress said: "I was attracted to the film because it was part of my childhood, also I wanted to work with Jose and Gary Oldman...

"It was a role I took because of the director and the actors, I didn't read a script when I took this role on I just took it because I had a good feeling about it."

Cornish and the cast were on the red carpet in London last night for the world premiere of the new film; it comes over fifteen years after the original hit the big screen.

And Cornish says it was the first time to reboot this franchise.

"First of all from 1987 to 2014, the changes in technology alone and what you can do with CGI is insane. I think it's more timely now, it's more relevant, it's more tangible, and I think that's what's good about bringing the family into it, it gives it a bit more of a heartbeat, it gives the film a pulse as well as the man versus machine story and the existential element of the story.

"It's a movie about technology and advancements in a military world, it's about a man's battle for his soul, what it is to be human."

This is the first big screen outing for Cornish since we saw her in Seven Psychopaths.

RoboCop is released 7th February.
