Edward Norton's The Incredible Hulk has smashed it's way to the top of the American box office grossing $54.5 million in it's opening weekend. The opening for the movie was bigger than pervious superhero movie Ghost Rider ($45.4 million), Superman returns ($52.5 million) and even Batman Begins which grossed just $48.7 million in it's opening weekend. However the film did fail to get anywhere near Iron Man's mammoth $98.6 million three day gross back in May.Last week's number one Kung Fu Panda dropped to number two after just one week while M.Night Shyamalan's The Happening surprisingly entered the chart at number three after being heavily criticised by the critics.Adam Sandler's comedy You Don't Mess With the Zohan fell from two to four while Indiana Jones rounded off the top five. There was also further success for Iron Man as it retained it's spot within the top ten as well as inching ever closer to the $300 million global gross, only the Spiderman have passed this mark.1. The Incredible Hulk, $54.5 million
2. Kung Fu Panda, $34.3 million
3. The Happening, $30.5 million
4. You Don't Mess With the Zohan, $16.4 million
5. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, $13.5 million
6. Sex and the City, $10.2 million
7. Iron Man, $5.1 million
8. The Strangers, $4.1 million
9. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, $3 million
