Clive Owen has revealed that he thinks it is important to do his own stunts because it is part of the job.

The actor returned to the big screen last week with Jason Statham and Robert De Niro with Killer Elite, which is based on the 1991 novel The Feather Men by Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

Speaking to Parade the actor said: "I think it's important because it's acting. I don't want someone else doing that for me.

"The intent and intensity, the stakes of something like that is an acting thing and you want to do that.

"That's the beauty of doing those fight scenes with [co-star Jason Statham]. He's so technically good and gifted in that area.

"I feel I'm pretty technical too and approach those scenes like any other. You want to make them believable and make sense."

Owen has competed work on Shadow Dancer as well as TV movie Hemingway & Gellgorn, in which he plays Ernest Hemingway.

The Killer Elite is out now.
