No summer is complete without a Marvel film hitting the big screen... this year we are going to be introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time.
For the last couple of years we have been treated to the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America movies, and now we have a brand new franchise to enjoy.
Guardians of the Galaxy sees James Gunn return to the director's chair, for what will be the final movie before Phase Two of Marvel films is brought to a close by Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.
Gunn has been behind movies such as Slither and Super in recent years, but this is the biggest directorial project of his career to date.
Early footage promises much; it really does look like it is going to be an action packed and funny new addition to the Marvel family. This is one of the summer movies that I personally cannot wait to see.
A terrific cast has been assembled for the film, from rising stars to well established and award winning actors.
Chris Pratt has been making a name for himself in recent years, but Peter Quill is the biggest role of his acting career.
He is joined by Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Benicio Del Toro, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, and John C. Reilly.
Another up and coming name on board is Karen Gillan; she is stepping into the big budget blockbuster for the first time.
Gillan made her name as Amy Pond in Doctor Who, and is now make a rapid transition into film - this is a role is going to send her star rocketing even further.
Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits - Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.
But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
Guardians of the Galaxy is the most ambitious Marvel project to date, and I cannot wait to see the end result.
Guardians of the Galaxy is released 1st August.
