Mark Wahlberg’s new film, Infinite, released only yesterday (June 10th, 2021) on streaming service Paramount+, and if you’re confused about the characters after watching, or want to know who’s who before you start the movie, then we’ve got you covered.
The Infinites are a race of humans that have the power to reincarnate themselves, similar to The Doctor’s character from Doctor Who. After learning that he belongs to this category of humans, Evan McCauley (Wahlberg) must dig deep into his memories to find a secret hidden there, one which will prevent the destruction of all life on Earth.
The Infinites are broken up into two factions, the Believers and the Nihilists; the opposing sides have been fighting a war that has been going on throughout history. Each time an Infinite dies, they are immediately reincarnated and simply continue where they left off from their past life.
However, villainous Infinite Bathurst (Chiwetel Ejiofor) grows tired of the reincarnations, and has created a weapon that will kill everyone on Earth in order to stop the Infinites from reincarnating; this is where Evan comes in.
Now you know the story, here is a brief description of the main cast and who they play, along with some supporting actors.
Mark Wahlberg as Evan McCauley
Diagnosed with schizophrenia his whole life, Evan McCauley discovers that being Infinite may answer every question that has ever haunted him. Evan is the pivotal hero in the fight against Bathurst and a key character for the Believers.
Evan becomes the centre in the fight against our antagonist, and clearly has some challenges ahead of him.
Wahlberg is best known for his role of John in Ted, as well as playing Cade Yeager in a few Transformers movies.
Chiwetel Ejiofor as Bathurst 2020
Bathurst is the leader of the Nihilists, and the most recent incarnation of an age-old villain who not only wants to end the existence of the Infinites, but all life on Earth in order to prevent this race of humans from reincarnating – for good.
Ejiofor is a British actor who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in 12 Years a Slave; he also starred in Children of Men and The Martian.
Sophie Cookson as Nora Brightman
Nora has a prominent role within the movie, as she has had dealings with Evan’s previous incarnations and has the significant job of indoctrinating Evan back into the Believers. She is a smart and more-than-capable member of the group.
Cookson is a British actress, perhaps best known for her role as Roxy in Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Jason Mantzoukas as Artisan
Mantzoukas’ Artisan is the Believers’ fantastic inventor who has become extremely eccentric after being an Infinite for eons. He is a party-animal and seems to be the sort to make a joke where they don’t belong.
Mantzoukas is known for his roles in Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn 99, and animated Netflix show, Big Mouth.
Dylan O’Brien as Heinrich Treadway
A member of the Believers, Heinrich Treadway appears in the thrilling opening scene of the movie; his theft of a significant piece of technology is what sets the film’s story in motion. Treadway appears to be an interesting character, and O’Brien’s skills will surely bring this character to life.
Dylan O’Brien is known for starring in Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner and, more recently, the fantastic new Netflix film Love and Monsters.
Other cast and characters
Wallis Day as Agent Shin: Agent Shin is a member of the Nihilists, and serves as Bathurst’s right-hand woman and assassin.
Johannes Haukur Johannesson as Kovic: Kovic is with the Believers; he is a large and intimidating weaponsmith.
Rupert Friend as Bathurst 1985: A prior reincarnation of the villain Bathurst chases Treadway in Mexico City in the opening scene for the movie; this part being set in 1985.
