The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo looks set to be one of the darkest and grittiest movies to be released this winter - and released on Boxing Day is should make cheery Christmas viewing.

The Swedish movie was a huge success last year - putting actress Noomi Rapace into the spotlight - but David Fincher is now bringing an English version to the big screen.

The movie is an adaptation of the popular Stieg Larsson novel and the screenplay has been penned by Steven Zaillian, who wrote American Gangster.

Daniel Craig leads the cast as Mikael Blomkvist alongside relative unknown Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander - this role is set to send her career rocketing.

Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Plummer and Joely Richardson complete an all star cast - I have to admit I am super excited for this one!

Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence.

Nearly forty years later a journalist by the name of Mikael Blomqvist gets an unusual assignment. He’s contacted by Harriet’s uncle, Henrik Vanger, who wants him to find out what really happened to Harriet.

Mikael takes on the job, with help from mysterious biker girl and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.

This unlikely pair form a fragile bond as they dig into the sinister past of this family and find out just how far they're prepared to go to protect themselves - and each other.

Sure the release of the movie at Christmas did raise my eyebrow - it is set to go head to head with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - but to say it will be a change from all the kiddy movie around at this time is a bit of an understatement.

No I have to admit that I am never a huge fans of when a foreign language movie is remade for an English audience, usually because they are never as good as the original.

However because David Fincher is behind the camera this time around I am keen to see his take on this, in places, quite hard hitting film.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is released 26th December.
