As we’re now almost a week into December, it’s become more acceptable to sit back and relax with one of these great movies.
We’ve put together a list of just some of the films that keep us coming back for more each and every year without hesitation. If you’ve not seen some of those that we put forward, we highly suggest a cosy night in by the fire with the DVD and a hot mug of coco to stop you from missing out.
Jingle All The Way
The story of one father trying to prove his worth to his son whilst hoping to keep his marriage secure doesn’t sound like something that’d be set for Christmas joy, but Jingle All The Way manages to turn what seems like a dire situation into an extremely hilarious and enjoyable experience. Watching Arnold Schwarzenegger chase the Christmas toy of the year, Turboman, around Minnesota whilst battling against other parents that have left their present buying to the last minute is a great way to spend any evening, and the film concludes with a brilliant sequence of hero versus villain that’ll have you laughing each time you see it.

Miracle on 34th Street
Whether you’re watching the 1947 version or the more recent release in 1994, this film about the validity of whether Santa Clause is real or not truly warms the heart, but not before some of the characters declare that St. Nick is actually mentally unstable! After being sent to an institution for the clinically insane, a legal battle ensues to get Kris Kringle (Santa Clause’s pseudonym) released, and prove that he is indeed the one and only Father Christmas. Richard Attenborough and Mara Wilson star in the latest version, which is certain to put a smile on your face.

The Grinch
He’s green, mean and a little scary, but the Grinch, played by Jim Carrey, will have kids rolling around with laughter rather than running to hide behind the sofa. In an attempt to steal Christmas from the small town of Whoville, who treated him like an outcast back when he was a child, the Grinch destroys everything related to the holiday that he can get his hands on. Will a young girl with a big heart be able to save the day and melt even just a little bit of the Grinch’s icy exposure, or will Christmas be ruined forever?

The Muppet Christmas Carol
There have been many adaptations of the world-renowned A Christmas Carol, but one of the best has to be The Muppets take on the story. With an absurd but wonderful line-up, and some brilliant narration by Gonzo and Rizzo, the story develops in a less complicated way than told in previous versions. The film is always sure to impress if you’re looking for something a little less taxing, but with a high moral compass – absolutely perfect for family viewing.

The Snowman
“We’re walking in the air” croons a St. Paul’s Cathedral choirboy – lyrics you’re probably used to hearing annually as The Snowman warms up your chilly Christmas month, and the only words you’ll hear throughout the entire animated short. A script isn’t needed however, as you’ll be completely immersed in the mystical world within just a few seconds of watching, and come away each time with the hope and belief that there is a little magic out there.

The Santa Clause
How would you feel about stepping into the shoes of Santa, after accidently killing him just a short while before Christmas? Probably not great or at all confident you could do the job, but Tim Allen manages to make the best of a horrific situation, with a little help from a few elf friends and his son in this seasonal corker that will surely lighten up anyone’s day.

Home Alone
Whenever most people think about Christmas films, one of the first that springs to mind is Home Alone. Sure, Macaulay Culkin AKA Kevin McCallister would probably be taken away from his family due to neglect if this were real life, but luckily we’re in the world of film where anything can happen. An outrageous pair of bandits have been planning to rob the McCallister household since they found out the family were leaving on vacation, but they didn’t bank on coming up against one of the smartest kids around. You’ll be howling with laughter from start to finish.

Home Alone 2
It’s official, the worst parents ever have to be Mr and Mrs McCallister, who somehow end up leaving their child behind as they jet away on holiday once again. Home Alone 2 is one of those rare sequels that more than lives up to the original, and adds some brilliant touches that give a nod in the direction of the first in the series. Just don’t go anywhere near Home Alone 3 or 4, as they go in a completely different direction, and you might end up feeling a little disappointed.

The Nightmare before Christmas
Tim Burton is a genius when it comes to creating a land many of us could never have even dreamed up, and in this creation he manages to find the perfect balance between both dark and festive moments. You’ll find yourself utterly enthralled and cheering on Jack Skeleton as he discovers the wonder of Christmas for the first time.
