The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo may be getting an American make over but it was the Swedish movie that grabbed all the headlines when it hit the big screen earlier this year.

And it is the Niels Arden Oplev directed movie that has made it onto our Best Movies of 2010 chart at number six.

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan.

Her beloved uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.

He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed and troubled but resourceful computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.

When the pair link the disappearance of Harriet to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

The Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

If you haven’t caught The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in the last twelve months then it’s a movie that you really should check out as it is a great piece of work from all involved.

The movie shot actress Noomi Rapace to stardom and it is a magnificent turn from the actress as she takes on the role of the troubled and tortured Lisbeth - some of the early scenes are quite harrowing.

It’s a haunting performance from Rapace and she is the reason that may will return for the next two instalments of the Millennium Trilogy.

And it’s these engaging characters that help make this movie so interesting as it is an old fashioned mystery - something that we are seeing less and less of in our cinemas.

Director Oplev has remained true to the book, something that is rarely seen in these adaptations, and this will keep fans of the novels happy.

Ok so the film is a little long at 146 minutes but it’s haunting, chilling, thrilling and compelling as the audience is pulled into this tale of a missing girl and Lisbeth and Mikael’s search for peace.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a fascinating movie where the tension builds and builds to a great finale.

Not only is the movie of the highest quality but Rapace brings to the life one of the most interesting heroines to the big screen in many year.
