Matthew Smith is an English actor best known for his role in the television series Dr Who. Matthew was born in Northampton in 1982, with dreams of becoming a professional football player. However, after a serious back injury he had to pursue another dream. He joined the National Youth Theatre in London and studied Drama and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia and graduated in 2005. Although Matthew dabbled in bits of theatre his biggest break was in landing the role of the doctor in 2010. He is the eleventh actor to play the role of the doctor and is the youngest actor to ever be considered for the part. Smith loves playing the role of the doctor on the TV show Doctor Who, Matt says that ‘The Doctor is excited and fascinated by the tiniest of things. By everything. By every single thing. That's what's wonderful about him as a character. It's why children like him, I think. Because he doesn't dismiss anything. He's not cynical. He's open to every single facet of the universe.’
