A survey carried out by Escentual.com revealed that Miranda Hart is most desired by the public to be the first female Doctor in the hit show, Dr Who.
When chief writer for the show, Stephen Moffat caused a stir this week by hinting the next doctor will be a woman, following current doctor, Matt Smith’s departure, Escentual were curious to see who the public want to see stepping into the doctors shoes.
Shockingly, Miranda Hart came out on top gaining 18% of the votes, quickly followed by former Dr Who star, Billie Piper, who gained 17% of the votes.
In third place is BAFTA winning actress, Olivia Coleman with 15.9% of the votes, followed by Sheridan Smith with 14.5% of the votes and ‘Great British Bake-off’ presenter, Sue Perkins with 5.7% of the votes.
However, despite the doctor being an old character at the age of 1,200, votors preferred to have a younger actress playing the role with older actresses such as Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench gaining 3.5% and 3.1%.
Escentual beauty editor Emma Leslie said: “It would be great if the Dr could be a woman for the first time. “The show has been running now for half a decade so it’s about time a woman had the chance to play this iconic role. Apart from the fact it’s one of the biggest roles on British TV, it would be every woman’s dream to look amazing at 1,200-years-old.”
