Gina Rodriguez feared she would have a panic attack when she had her hair cut.
The 32-year-old actress has admitted she "thought" she was going to faint and sob when she had part of her head shaved for her a role in 'Annihilation' because she hadn't chopped her tresses since she was a teenager.
Speaking about the beauty overhaul, the 'Jane the Virgin' star said: "Honestly, in the moment, it wasn't emotional. I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I thought I was going to cry, all those things because I haven't had my hair cut off since I was like 15, but I didn't do any of those."
However, the brunette beauty has revealed the new do is growing on her and although it made her the "weakest" version of herself, the star has now become stronger.
She explained to PEOPLE: "It was a very intense character that I played. It was a mixture of that, and looking at myself in the mirror for the first time in a way I'd never seen myself, utilizing all those things that I talked to the young girls about, and I talked to them about it because I'm reminding myself as well.
"[Shaving my head] was transformative because I came out stronger than I ever thought I would. But I went through a journey that probably made me the weakest I'd ever been."
The Chicago-born star announced she had chopped off her locks via Instagram earlier this year with a picture showcasing the side of her head, which captures her smiling.
She captioned the post: "I cut my hair for a film and there is nothing more freeing then realizing your beauty exists from within. I am not my hair. I am not my weight. I am not my skin colour. I am love, I want to be love with every interaction, with every decision I make for myself, with every failure and success. You should try it. I dare you. Let go of what you think would make you more beautiful and discover you have all you need already inside. @mattdoylephoto (sic)."
