Cannes may be over but the beauty of the gowns that we saw on the red carpet is still lingering in our minds.
Here I pick out my top ten favourite looks from the film festival.
These are not in any particular order, but Nicole Kidman’s Christian Dior look from the opening ceremony is still definitely my number one standout.
The stunning embroidery on the delicate gown was exquisite. I love the modern shorter hem on the dress and how the coral pumps draw out the colour on the dress.
But, of course it was the hair that really made this look a knockout. Her modern ponytail made this an unforgettable look.
Another show stopping look came from Sonam Kapoor in Dolce & Gabbana at the Jeune & Jolie premiere.
The strapless gown was definitely unforgettable with its voluminous silhouette. Again the shorter hemline is a very modern touch.
The designers said of her look: “Sonam Kapoor for us represents the epitome of the Golden Era of Hollywood thanks to her natural elegance, her femininity and class. Those years around the ‘50s that have made us dream for so long.
“For her, we created a special piece that could emphasise her unique beauty.”
And that it most definitely did.
Next up, our home grown starlet, Cheryl Cole. The singer made just one appearance on the red carpet at Cannes and it definitely made a lasting impression.
Cheryl chose a Zuhair Murad Fall 2013 gown for the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian) premiere.
The stunning maroon sheer long-sleeve gown with beaded embellishments fits her glamorous style perfectly.
Cheryl, like Nicole, made an impression not only with her gown but her hairstyle too. Not surprising considering she attended as a L’Oreal brand ambassador. But still, her bouffant with loose braid was simply beautiful - something I’ve tried to recreate but not too much avail yet.
Jessica Chastain’s bold purple embellished custom Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown made a real statement.
And thankfully, the actress let the gown do all of the talking. Simple styling ensured this look would be remembered for its unique beauty.
Another highly embellished gown that made a lasting impression was the Roberto Cavalli number that Alessandra Ambrosio wore to the All Is Lost premiere.
Her long-sleeved, high neck gown featured a degrade gold hemline. The cut-out back was the perfect sexy balance for the Victoria’s Secret model who is so used to parading her toned body.
Sleek hair and make-up ensured this look was kept fuss-free.
Frieda Pinto’s bright pink Gucci gown from the opening ceremony and The Great Gatsby premiere was another one that stood out through all of the other premieres.
The one-of-a-kind gown with halter neck design was accented with a gold-embellished belt which completed the look perfectly.
The Indian actress moved around plenty on the red carpet which allowed the silk chiffon gown to be presented in all its glory.
Nicole Kidman was sat on the grand jury this year at the Cannes Film Festival, so of course we knew we’d be getting plenty of jaw-dropping style moments.
Her Valentino gown was definitely one of these.
At the Nebraska premiere she chose a Valentino Spring 2013 Couture off-white sleeveless gown which featured a high neck and floral overlay.
It takes someone like Nicole and her stature to carry off such a regal gown.
This gown was supposed to take the red carpet at this year’s Oscars on Anne Hathaway, but a last minute change meant the Les Miserables actress didn’t wear it. I’m glad she didn’t, this gown is perfect for Nicole.
Fan Bing Bing was of course on hand to bring Lebanese designer Elie Saab to life on the red carpet.
At the Jeune & Jolie premiere the actress looked delightful in her summery yellow Elie Saab Couture gown from the Spring 2012 collection.
As we’ve come to know from the designer, embellishment featured on the top half of the dress, complimented with a stunning textured skirt. An embellished clutch and eye popping orange lipstick completed this gorgeous look.
Aishwarya Rai also makes this list wearing another stunning Elie Saab creation.
Hers comes from the Spring 2013 Couture collection. The black lace-print gown shimmers with sequinned lace embroidery.
The gown is just breath-taking.
My final pick for the list is Emma Watson and her simplistic Chanel Couture gown she wore to The Bling Ring premiere.
The minimalistic approach was loved by Carey Mulligan during Cannes, and Emma’s Chanel gown goes down a similar route.
The off-white gown with embellished black bodice definitely channels the actress’ sophisticated side, but the sexy cut-out back shows off her style perfectly.
Emma never fails on the red carpet, throughout the years she has dressed appropriately and beautifully.
What do you think of my list? Is there any looks you would have added or removed?
