Serena Takes Centre Stage In Gossip Girl

Serena Takes Centre Stage In Gossip Girl

Having just seen a glimpse of bad girl Serena last week, it's fair to say that after last night's episode bad ass S has made a triumphant return, squashing former BFF, Blair in the process.

Ahh, the world of Gossip Girl gets more crazy each week, which is why we love it. It's the perfect form of escapism from the real world, but last night's episode at least touched a tad on reality- it showed New York Fashion Week!

The Serena Also Rises opened with Blair trying to rally her troops, after their deflection last week to a new Queen. Chuck was particularly enjoying Blair fail, but after hearing some home truths, his comical smirk turned into more of a nasty scowl.

Oh how we love Chuck and his pantomime villain antics and funky dress sense. With Nate absent for this entire episode (hurrah- it's not like we have anything against the most beautiful boy on the planet, it's just well... he's so boring this season!) Chuck hilariously teamed up with Dan for a night of frolics.

Teamed up may not be the most accurate word, as it was more Dan who wanted to experience the world of Chuck Bass, only for the purpose of a story of course, as it's pretty obvious these two hate each other.

It did lend itself to some real comedy gem moments however, as Chuck questioned Dan's sexuality, stole his shoes, got him drunk and eventually ditched him alone in Brooklyn!

Dan's washed out yellow shirt and cardigan just made him look far more pathetic than he actually was, and paired alongside Chuck in his purple shirt and necktie, the poor young Humprey didn't really stand a chance when Chuck presented a tray of shots for him to down.

Back to the lovely Blair and we have to make a comment about her poker straight hair this week; we loved it! Teamed with a few new blonde highlights and a new plaid skirt and bow top, she definitely had the fashion edge over Serena in the opening moments of the show.

Speaking of Serena, she seemed to be hesitant at first about her new found fame, but soon embraced it showing off more leg and cleavage in this one episode than the entire last series.

Serena and Blair come to blows at Fashion Week

It was all down to her new socialite friend of course, who by the end of the episode was encouraging Serena not to hide her light (what the hell that means is anyone's guess, but seeing as she's only around for one more episode we don't really care!)

This episode also welcomed the return of Lily Bass, who has only had a few fleeting moments in the series so far. We love her wardrobe- it's so classic and elegant, with last night's purple satin number being no exception, she could actually pass for Serena's sister, which we're not entirely sure is a good thing, but hey this is Gossip Girl, when does reality ever come into it?!

Back to Bryant Park and we were treated to a glimpse of the new bad girl Jenny we've been hinting at for the past few weeks, as she ditched school to work for Eleanor in the run-up to the show. How they bought Jenny's excuse of 'independent study' when she turned up in her school uniform each day god only knows.

Rocking a very short floral dress, which was very low cut for a 15-year-old, Jenny is starting to develop something of an attitude, which may come back to bite her on the bum in upcoming episodes. Bye bye Little J...

Blair meanwhile, was trying her best to ruin her mother's show after Serena was made a front row guest, and like totally stole the limelight. Putting her at the back, refusing to let her in, cancelling all the models and showcasing Jenny's dress on the catwalk failed to do the job, and when Serena took to the runway, it was very clear B was crushed.

Not as much as we were however, when our fashion champion severely let us down in the episode with her dress choice, which apart from being dull, was teamed with a hair band that made her ears stick out in a not very attractive way.

Then she wore a hideous silk bow top and cardigan, again with a headband to make her ears stick out. Blair- you are gorgeous, but this will never be a good look for you. More effort next episode please or we may have to revoke your fashion status!

She was going through some personal issues however, so we may let her off this time, especially when she has someone like Serena as her BFF, always being touted as the special one.

We get it B, really we do. You work your ass off, try to be the perfect girlfriend/friend/daughter, only to be humiliated and outshone each time by your party loving, slutty best friend.

We did love Serena's green puffball dress and backcombed hair however, much more than her attitude right at the end where she basically told Blair to stick her friendship- she was going to be the centre of attention, whether B liked it or not. Uh-oh!

While everything was getting severely buggered up at the fashion show, Chuck was accusing random women in bars of being prostitutes, Dan was defending Chuck's honour by punching a dodgy looking bloke and they both ended up in jail.

Why Chuck feels the need to dress and act like a bachelor is beyond me. He's only 17, but looks so much older in his savvy suits and swept back hair. Don't get me wrong, I think it's very sexy, but it would be nice to see a dressed down Chuck at some point.

We did get to see a more vulnerable side of Chuck last night however, as he revealed how his father doesn't care about him and blames Chuck for killing his wife, when he was born.

It was pretty sad and intense, with Dan finally starting to understand Chuck a bit better. It could have been the beginning of a beautiful 'bromance', only to be dashed when Chuck found out the real reason for Dan's newfound interest in him.

No-one uses Chuck Bass and we think in future Dan may find himself a target of chuck's angst. On a lighter note we were tickled pink by Dan's code name for Chuck, which was Charlie Trout. Lol.

So, where does that leave us for next week? Well, Blair is totally crushed, but with Yale on the line we're sure she'll rise to the challenge, chuck wants revenge on Dan, Serena's shining light pits her against Blair in an unusual way and Nate reappears, and calls himself Dan.

Confused? you will be! Check in next week for another fashion rundown with New Haven Can Wait.
