With another seven days in the rearview mirror, there have been a whole bunch of exciting TV news announcements hitting the headlines! Here, we take a look at some of the most important reveals of the week, allowing you a deeper look at all of the biggest stories from the world of television…
Jared Padalecki hurt following Supernatural spinoff news
Though CW series Supernatural has come to an end, it's been revealed that a spinoff focusing on Sam and Dean's parents, John and Mary Winchester will be coming to the network, with star Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel Ackles serving as executive producers through their company Chaos Machine Productions. Ackles also reprises his role as Dean to narrate the story.
Though the news was at first met with excitement, Ackles’ Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki’s response saw some real-life drama take place. He took to Twitter to reply and said: “Wish I heard about this some other way than Twitter. I'm excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”
Fortunately, the minor spat came to a quick conclusion as Padalecki once more took to Twitter to reveal that he and Ackles had had a conversation about the whole situation.
Gossip Girl characters’ privilege to be explored
The original Gossip Girl was a fantastic series, but set in a completely different time. The world has progressed so much in such a short amount of time and so, audiences were wondering if the reboot from showrunner Josh Safran would address those real-world shifts.
The first sign of change was in the reboot’s cast. It's a lot more diverse than the predominantly-white characters that made up the original and, if Safran’s recent Variety interview is anything to go by, that’s not the only thing that’ll be different.
He explained: “These kids wrestle with their privilege in a way that I think the original didn’t. In light of [Black Lives Matter], in light of a lot of things, even going back to Occupy Wall Street, things have shifted. I think the first [Gossip Girl] showed a little bit of wealth p**n or privilege p**n, like, ‘Look at these cars, or here’s a montage of the best-plated food you’ve ever seen.”

The Walking Dead star joins The Boys Season 3
A whole host of new Supes are making their way to the small screen in the upcoming third season of Amazon Prime Video original series, The Boys. One of those will be a familiar face for fans of The Walking Dead, as Laurie Holden has signed on to bring Crimson Countess to life.
With ties to another new face - Soldier Boy played by Jensen Ackles - it’s going to be very interesting to see how this character is brought into the fold. Will they be a part of The Seven, or is Crimson Countess going to fight against Vought’s forces?
Sex Education returns to Netflix in September
With a new year comes new struggles for the students of Moordale. Otis (Asa Butterfield) is having casual sex, with Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells) now official and Jean (Gillian Anderson) expecting a baby. That's just the tip of the iceberg in a new season of Sex Education that will see Jemima Kirke join the series as new headteacher Hope, along with Jason Isaacs as Mr Groff's more successful, older brother Peter.
Those who have been excited to see the show make a comeback will be happy to hear that it will be making its official return to Netflix on September 17th, 2021, with eight brand new episodes.
Loki confirmed as bisexual in new Disney+ series
A moment of 'getting to know you' between Loki and Sylvie in the latest episode of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series Loki, saw the fan-favourite character confirmed as bisexual as he spoke with the variant about a potential romance.
Loki asked Sylvie if there was a “lucky beau” waiting for her, to which she replied that there was a serious, long-distance relationship with a postman being maintained. She then asked if Loki as the Prince of Asgard had know any “would-be-princesses or perhaps, another prince”. His response? A smile before admitting, “a bit of both”.
Having seen Loki struggle with his identity and acceptance both from his family and the wider world, this is a small but important step in showing the LGBTQ+ community who are fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that they are being heard and can be a big part of the MCU’s stories moving forward.
