Gossip Girl's Blair in Never Been Marcused
Following on from last week's fashion extravaganza, we were treated to some more of the same in 'Never Been Marcused' as Blair desperately tried to become part of the Royal elite.
We do love it when she goes back to her scheming best and was clearly over her heartbreak from last week. Anyway, she was on top form in the fashion stakes, working a pair of orange shorts and sheer blouse to perfection in the opening minutes of the second episode.
She also gets a massive thumbs up for the uber-cute dogtooth heart bag and retro pumps she wears while screaming down the phone to Serena about being a summer fling; Oh Blair how we love you!
While Blair is busy schmoozing with the Lord, Serena and Dan wake-up on the beach together in a state of undress. They have a few vomit inducing moments, which lead to them basically trying to stay away from each other, in case they give into temptation.
Like Dan puts it 'We're not animals' and ten minutes later Serena is leading him to a bus toilet...classy. She does rock the hippy look really well though, seducing Dan in tiny denim hot pants and a tye dye vest.
While they're getting it on, Blair is back to plotting to get Marcus to make them official. Her grand idea is to plan a massive party, with exclusive guests that will appeal to her new boyf's snooty nature.
Her signature headband in this scene has been replaced by a retro head scarf, which she teams with a red pencil skirt and white silk blouse; the epitome of summer chic.
Next we move onto Nate, who was last seen having sex in a toilet with Katherine; his married older woman. This episode he seems less keen to get back with her and spends a lot of time moping around wearing the same clothes.
Sporting a hoody he wore last season for this entire episode is not very fashion forward, producers! We know he can't be like Chuck, but seriously, Nate is a pretty boy that needs to get his top off more... just an idea!
Speaking of Chuck, he is also back to his scheming best, as he plots to bring about the downfall of Blair's Lord. Only he could look extremely sexy in a pink shirt and beige shorts, as he tries to set up a meeting with Marcus' step mother; the Duchess.
Now, do you remember last week we told you there was a connection between Nate's older lady and Blair? Well, it turns out quite horribly for Blair actually, that Katherine is Marcus' step-mother!
No-one bar Chuck is actually aware of this and in a brilliantly mean moment at Blair's party, introduces her to Blair as his friend. Blair's response- "Why would I want to meet her, so she can warn me about the effects of too much botox?" Ouch!
Blair's face is a picture when she realises who she actually is and her royal chance of happiness appears to be slipping away. Katherine isn't impressed with her lowly Waldorf status and it appears Chuck may have won his battle.
Despite his ruthless attempt to bring Blair down we do get to see a softer side to Chuck in this episode, as he sells his share in Victrola to help out Nate's family, who are now depressingly broke.
Nate's reaction to this? carry on sleeping with his older woman and now she will pay him for it- just when he was planning a reunion with old flame Vanessa; remember her?
She's really not rated by the fans and we're not mad keen on her fashion sense so far in the second season. Her outfit last night consisted of a garish heart choker necklace and a lime green strappy top and jeans. Yuck.
Anyways, we're rooting for the two of them in the future, because Nate doesn't seem all that keen on Katherine and while we're on that subject, it could just be us, of course but do Katherine and Marcus appear to be a little closer than just Step-Mother and Step-Son? Humm...just a thought.
So, back to the fashion and Blair's party was not as grand as last week's White Party affair, but it did give us some OMG moments all the same. We're loving Blair's look this season so far; her hair is lighter, she has more of a tan and she just generally looks so chic!
Her strapless bow dress, complete with pearl headband was to-die-for and of course her Tiffany's necklace completed the look to perfection.
Serena too looked gorgeous in a maxi tye dye dress and pearl necklaces. Our only quibble is her messy hippy hair she sported throughout this entire episode, we'd like to see her look a tad more polished.
Dan doesn't seem to mind however, as he turns up at Blair's party in a dodgy looking waistcoat and promptly implies he's about to have sex with Serena in a lift; geez, why can't these people get an actual room!?
While Serena is doing her best to keep her and Dan a secret from her BFF, she hypocritically advises Blair to be honest about her feelings with Katherine and apologise, which Blair goes off to do.
Shockingly/hilariously (delete as appropriate) Blair walks in on Katherine and Nate doing the nasty and her response- "Oh my effing god!" is one of the best LOL moments of the series so far.
However, now Queen B has the upper hand, she forces Katherine to give her and Marcus her blessing, and she's got one over on Chuck now too in the process, who is wearing a smoking jacket and silk PJs to greet Blair when she tells him of her victory. Priceless.
We can only imagine what next week will bring, but something tells us that the Blair and Chuck saga is far from over.
In addition to that, expect to see Serena and Dan working out their issues, or not as the case may be and we'll all be figuring out who's having a sneaky smooch in the dark... Check in for another fashion rundown next week with, The Dark Night.
