Whether you are doing the 30 Day Minimalism Game (see below if you don't know what this is) and need to get rid of seven things today or you are just looking for some inspiration, here we have seven suggestions for the 7th day of March to keep you motivated.

Cereal: Take a look in your cereal cupboard, or the place you keep your cereal and be honest with yourself. What do you reach for every day and what did you buy on impulse or because you wanted to follow a different eating plan? The proof is in what’s in your bowl every day- if it’s not the half bag of oats or the bran flakes that are hiding at the back, you are probably never going to eat these. Check what cereals are suitable for the birds in your garden and put these out for them to enjoy or pass the boxes and packets onto someone else who is obsessed with overnight oats or regular bowel movements.

Cereal bars: Continuing with this theme, cereal bars can also lurk around in drawers until they have passed their sell-by date too. You may have bought these to eat at your desk or on the train but always forgot to take them or they didn’t taste quite the same as your favourite cereal with milk and a spoon. So, if you have any of these clogging up your drawer or cupboard space, it would be wise to give them to a food bank or pass them to someone who enjoys a breakfast on the go.

Medals: Medals fall into the category of something that is important to your family as a whole, so if you have a medal that belonged to someone a grandparent or great grandparent but it doesn’t hold any sentimental value for you- pass it onto someone who will display it proudly and enjoy the conversation around it. Sometimes we feel we have to take things because they are part of our history, but maybe you aren’t the best person to store it. If this is the case, ask around and see who else might like to cherish the item instead.

Unfinished projects: The old adage is true- you will find the time for things you really want to do so if you haven’t made the time for a writing, crafting, gardening or reading project (to name just a few), chances are you never will. It clearly wasn’t that important to you in the first place, so declutter it and make way for the thing that really sparks joy instead.

Hats: Most of us have one too many hats so if you are someone who has more than you could ever wear, it’s time to clear your space of the ones you never put on your head. This could include novelty hats, tiaras and crowns from fancy dress nights too so don’t exclude the dressing up box if you have one. Most people like to go as something different when they go in character so your costume box is a great place to start.

Earrings: Earrings- either big or small can start to take over a jewellery box if you’re not careful so take a look at your collection and decide which ones you always wear, which ones you never gravitate towards and ask yourself why. If they were inexpensive and always make your ears change colour, it’s time they went and if they hurt or irritate your lobes, this is also a sign that they aren’t for you. Sentimental ones are slightly different as you may not wear them but want to hold onto them all the same. As with the medals, is there someone else in the family who would enjoy wearing these?

Earphones: Most phones come with a fresh set when you purchase a new one, so your earphone stash threatens to get bigger every time your contract runs out. Everyone has a preference when it comes to earphones as they can be very uncomfortable. So if you are someone who likes larger headsets, then purge all of your earphones that go inside the ear or perhaps you have a pair that never stay inside your ears and always drop out when you are trying to take a call at work or listen to music. In which case, these aren’t a good fit for you and need to be recycled along with the ones that no longer work.

Old toothbrushes: As it’s National Dentist’s Day, we thought we would focus on things that are related to oral health for the first three suggestions, so if you have any old toothbrushes lying around- this is a great place to start. Perhaps you need to change the head on your electric toothbrush and get rid of the old one or maybe you use them for cleaning and you have collected more than you could ever use. If this sounds familiar, reduce these down to just what you really need. Continuing with the dental theme, if you have any toothpaste that is no longer fit for requirement- try to pass it onto someone else you know will benefit from saving a few pennies on this cupboard staple. Perhaps your dentist put you onto a new brand that works better for your teeth, if so, give your old one away so it’s not lying around your bathroom... to read more click HERE
